16:9 to 4:3 mode converter box for Sega Megadrive, Neo Geo and other SCART RGB cables
$14.99
Please note, we must stress that only certain models of TV that follow the SCART standard correctly will work with this box.
It is not compatible with any RGB to YUV or other converter used with non SCART TVs or monitors because these TVs do not take a mode switching voltage.
It is not compatible with some LCD TVs. It is compatible with every CRT we tested which features 16:9 as well as 4:3. These include Sonys and Panasonics. Basically if your CRT forces borders at the top and bottom of the screen when you plug in your SCART RGB cable, you should be able to make use of this device.
On compatible LCDs your 16:9 picture will be correctly forced into 4:3 by squashing it widthways and adding borders at the left and right of the screen.
Please do not confuse such borders with PAL. This box does not fix PAL borders, it fixes widescreen issues on your TV.
What this box does is take a 5V signal from a compatible console and doubles it, giving you the correct signal to autoswitch your TV into 4:3.
Consoles which output 5V include the Sega Megadrive, Master system and Neo Geo range. Official Sega cables however, already feature circuitry to double the voltage. Third party ones do not.
Consoles which output 12V include the SNES and Dreamcast. In the case of the SNES it may well still be outputting only 5V. It depends how your SCART cable was wired, many of them are wired wrongly.
There are many other examples but basically, if your TV is forcing 16:9 on your console and you know it has auto mode switching, you are getting a 5V signal from that console which can be doubled.
We do not recommend plugging a cable which already outputs 10-12V into this adaptor. We have no idea whether doubling this signal for up to 24V will damage the TV. Please do not plug cables which already correctly switch your image into this adaptor. At best it won't work, at worst it will damage the TV.
